How to do primer for walls before painting?
To prime walls for painting, follow these steps:
- Choose a primer: Choose a primer that is suitable for the type of wall surface you are priming and the type of paint you will be using.
- Prepare the wall surface: Make sure the wall is clean, dry and free of any dust or debris. If necessary, repair any cracks or holes.
- Apply the primer: Using a paint roller or brush, apply an even coat of primer to the wall surface, covering all areas completely.
- Wait for the primer to dry: Allow the primer to dry completely, following the manufacturer’s recommended drying time.
- Sand the surface: Lightly sand the surface to remove any rough spots or drips.
- Apply a second coat if necessary: If the primer has soaked into the wall and you can still see the original color, apply a second coat of primer.
- Clean up: Clean your paint tools and store them properly for later use.
Note: If you’re priming over a very dark color or a glossy surface, you may need to use a stain-blocking primer to prevent the color from bleeding through the final paint coat.
